An Homage to Frida Kahlo

Here are the 4 works for the upcoming Exhibition: An Homage to Frida Kahlo. My inspiration for this mini-series came from a discovery made upon reading much of Frida’s memoirs, Diego Rivera’s autobiography, and modern literature about the artist. Frida Kahlo had an affair with the exiled Russian Bolshevik Revolutionary Leon Trotsky, who lived and died at her Mexican home. For a number of years I have cultivated an obsession with Soviet Military Hats, and have amassed an extensive collection. The paintings in this series reflect this interest, and confront my ever more mixed up British/Australian identity. They feature my beloved pets from both countries, some of whom I have lost in recent years.
