The Lost Boys - Corey Haim

Here are some photos of the work-in-progress leading up to finish of the first painting from my new series: "The Lost Boys"; of Corey Haim in said movie.

My boyfriend's nephew Wynton will give you an idea of their size, 1.7m x 1.7m each (approximately 3 cms taller than me!)

The series will explore the turbulent nature of child celebrity. The seven subjects were a generation of boys all born in the 1970s or early 80s, and all began acting in childhood. I grew up watching them in Hollywood movies like “Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead”, “Stand By Me”, “License To Drive,” “The Neverending Story II”, “Rocky V”, “Sleepers” and “10 Things I Hate About You”. All died due to substance abuse or suicide in their 20s and 30s.

Just a few more sequins left to embroider....

Finished painting: "Corey Haim (1971-2010) as Sam Emerson".

The series will be shown as part of The "Homage to Hollywood" Group Exhibition at 19 Karen Contemporary Artspace, Mermaid Beach,  opening 1st December 2012.
